Morehouse School of Medicine

image001Dr. David Levine is a Professor of Pediatrics at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) and the Chair of the Committee on Adolescence of the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (Ga AAP).  He is also a member of the national Committee on Adolescence for the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).  In October 2014, the AAP will release the latest policy statement on Contraception and it will recommend long acting reversible contraceptives as the most effective methods.  Dr. Levine is working with MSM Pediatrics residents to conduct a survey of Georgia pediatricians’ knowledge, attitude and practices towards long acting reversible contraceptives (LARCS).  The survey will inform the need for further training working with Georgia’s Pediatricians to integrate the new policy into clinical practice.  The GaAAP chapter recently completed a training grant on this subject and the educational efforts were focused on communities with the greatest need in South Georgia.  A new grant that will work to increase HPV immunization rates will also mention the new policy.  Dr. Levine is a regular participant on the P3 Leadership Council.  “It is extremely gratifying to work on concert with others in academics, community organizations, insurance companies and public health professionals as we continue to work to increase LARC uptake and continue to make significant strides at reducing teen pregnancy and birth rates in Georgia.”
